The University schools carry on activities in all important scientific and academic domains. The media domain was, for the first time, institutionalized in 1990, by the setting up of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies. This school’s mission statement stipulates the goal “to introduce students to the fundamentals of mass communication, the techniques and the moral and ethical implications of journalism.” The Faculty’s Department of Press was the first that started teaching journalism in the University of Bucharest. The teaching staff includes media professionals. At the level of full-time BA studies, students are taught: print press, video and audio press, journalism on line, multimedia, digital media etc. The Faculty’s media studies continue with the Master programmes: ‘Management of Media Enterprises’, ‘Multimedia and Video/Audio Production’, ‘Specialized Journalism’ and ‘Multimedia Journalism’. The distance learning programmes follow the same curriculum as the full-time education. In addition to that, The Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies delivers Post-graduate courses in the communication and new electronic media. The Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies produces the quarterly ‘Romanian Review of Journalism and Communication’, whose articles concern media research done by Romanian and foreign media theorists and professionals. |
